Prices

For projects using Sibelius (one of the top professionally recognised softwares, recommended for uses such as publishing, formal concerts, submissions for competitions and so on), I charge in accordance with the minimum Musicians Union rates, which is £56.23 per hour of working time - or £4.84 per bar (1-6 players, going up to £10.46 per bar for 60+ players). For the hourly rate, approximately how long a piece will take to transcribe is determined by: complexity of the piece (complexity is determined by overall discordance or atonality, how clear the recording is, and how many instruments are involved), how detailed the client would like the score to be (level of dynamics, articulation, chord names and so on), any repetition in the piece, whether any original MIDI file has been quantized and is tidy, and so on. Most of the time is accounted for by either the initial transcription process to create the MIDI file, or the engraving/typesetting process of the contents of an existing MIDI file to a readable score. MU rates for these services can be seen here in full, as well as terms and conditions: https://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/Files/Rates/Songwriting/Arranging-Music-Preparation-Orchestration-Fees.aspx

I also offer the option of Musescore, for which I charge the reduced rate of £40/hour; or £3 per bar, going up to £7 per bar for 60+ players. While not suitable for publishing, or formal or professional use, it is an excellent software and is highly recommended for casual and home use.

Clients' budgets are taken into account, and I am often able to find a way to work to accommodate these needs - for example, going on the hourly rate, I can do things such as forego dynamics, keep a transcription simple and omit details and flourishes (the more detailed the score, the more time will need to be spent on it); alternatively, if that is not an option, payment in instalments is a possibility, and I am more than happy to work with the client to create a payment plan.

I will ask for a 10% deposit to be paid before work starts. The remaining amount is then to be paid on completion. Alternatively, if you have multiple pieces and/or the fee is large, you may choose to pay for each piece after its completion, or pay in instalments. Payment is made via PayPal (to pitchperfectmusic@live.co.uk), or personal cheque (details provided on request), or BACS transfer (details provided on request). Upon completion, you will be sent an invoice for the remaining amount (broken up into instalments if requested). Payment is due no later than the date/s stated on the invoice (usually 28 days from issue of the invoice).

Note: During busy periods, it is not always possible to take on urgent projects, or to commit to completing other projects quickly. You will be advised if this is the case.
