Programme Notes:
"In 2006, I was living on the hills which form the border between England and Wales; this is deemed to be an area of "special scientific interest" where the many wonders of Nature abound.
'Rhaeadr' means 'waterfall' in the Welsh language and my piece is a sound picture of the myriad forms, shapes, stillnesses and polar dynamic forces that waterfalls can evoke; from thundering torrents and sunlit pools to droplets and sprays that spirit into being, white and ghostly mists before our very eyes.
The music begins with a ‘trickling’ movement from the top of the waterfall and makes its way down, crashing into rocks, swerving around them and almost coming to a halt in a shallow, sunlit pool which lies, temporarily, in a plateau. Then, finding a crevice to squeeze through, the water continues its unrelenting descent - finally reaching the bottom of the hill and coming to rest in calm liquidity."
